What to Expect on Your First Visit
On your initial visit to Virginia Vein Care, we will obtain a complete venous history as well as information about any other medical conditions which you may have. A thorough venous exam will be performed which will include a comprehensive but painless duplex ultrasound exam performed by one of our experienced technicians. Based on your physical examination and the ultrasound results, we will provide you with our best recommendations for alleviating your symptoms and improving the appearance of your legs.
About Us
Dr. Lawrence Markovitz is a Board Certified Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeon with over 18 years of clinical experience.
Having trained at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania,
he was chief of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Midelford Clinic, a Mayo Clinic subsidiary. He
relocated to the Northern Virginia area in 2003. Since his arrival in the area, he has been consistently recognized
by Washingtonian Magazine and Consumer Check Book as one of the areas best surgeons. Over the years he has a great
many satisfied patients.

Mr. Mark Bates
Mr. Mark Bates, RVT is founder and president of Bates & Associates LLC, which is a consulting firm dedicated to the advancement of Non Invasive Vascular Technology. Mr. Bates has over 15 years of clinical and diagnostic experience in his industry and most recently has been known for the setup and management of vein centers of excellence in Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Northern & Central Virginia.
Mr. Bates completed his under graduate vascular education experience in the United Air Force Allied Health Program Department of Vascular Surgery and is credited for being an expert in venous duplex imaging and physiologic testing. Mr. Bates also has academic ties with cardiovascular internship programs, both in Maryland and Washington D.C.
Renee Lukashefski
Renee is originally from the Northeast Pennsylvania area. She received her baccalaureate degree in Nursing from the University of Rhode Island. Renee has been a clinical nurse over 10 years, practicing in the fields of surgical oncology, chemotherapy/radiation oncology, and currently works as an operating room nurse as well as sclerotherapist. She has served various clinical management roles as a nursing educator/instructor and clinical mentor within the Inova Health System. Renee has been a sclerotherapist in the Northern Virginia area for 2 years. She currently resides in the Fairfax, Va. area with her husband and daughter.
Shirley Wilson, BS, RDMS, RVT
Ms. Wilson is the founder of the Sterling Sonographic Solutions LLC. Her company provides sonographic services in a variety of ultrasound specialties, to include obstetrics/gynecology, abdominal, and venous ultrasound. The company will soon provide screening services for cardiac and vascular disease for members of the community.
Ms. Wilson received her baccalaureate degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography from The George Washington University and has been working as a registered technologist for over 10 years. She has gained her vast knowledge-base and vascular expertise from some of the most reputable facilities in the area, including The Washington Hospital Center, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and Georgetown Hospital. Whenever possible, she assists in the training of future sonographers and vascular technologists at area universities and medical centers.
